The smallest and only bookshelf speaker in Bowers & Wilkins flagship 800 series range has always been a favourite here at Grahams from the launch of the first generation Nautilus 805. The latest generation is radical overhaul of the 805 design, the only part in common with the previous generation 805 Diamond is the diamond dome of the tweeter, everything else is been redesigned and improved with advances in material and design technologies. The result is a revelation in performance making the 805 D3 one of the best sounding bookshelf speakers we have heard. These deliver incredibly high-performance sound in spades. The more modest size of the 805 D3 belies its capabilities of depth and scale with poise and control.
The new cabinet is an evolution of B&W's tried and tested Matrix braced curved cabinet with a hybrid metal and ply internal matrix brace to ensure the drive units sing, and not the cabinet.
Incredibly light, yet unbelievably rigid, Diamond is the ultimate tweeter material. Delivering the most revealing, natural treble you will ever hear. The Diamond dome tweeter is housed in a solid piece of aluminium. This mechanically inert structure provides an incredibly rigid platform from which the tweeter can deliver crystal clear sound.
The Continuum cone delivers pristine midrange performance by effectively negating the break-up behaviour that can adversely effect this all-important part of the spectrum. It is a radical break from the Kevlar drive units that B&W have famously used for the last 30 years.
You would expect a sense of scale and musicality from a set of loudspeakers carrying a price tag such as these. But somehow they impress more than you could imagine and deliver music with genuine feeling and passion.
Available in three finishes, Gloss Black, Rosenut and Satin White.
