The Bowers & Wilkins flagship 800 series range has always been a favourite here at Grahams from the launch of the first generation Nautilus 800. The latest generation is radical overhaul of the previous design, the only part in common with the previous generation is the diamond dome of the tweeter, everything else has been redesigned and improved with advances in material and design technologies.
Moreover the 803 D3 is a completely new speaker, replacing the 803 Diamond (which was a larger version of the 804), this is a smaller version of the 802 and the most compact headed model Bowers & Wilkins has ever made, it boasts all of the features of its larger siblings, but in a more room-friendly size. The result is a fundamentally different speaker at a different price point to the outgoing model. It boasts many of the qualities of its larger siblings rather than the scaled up 804 performance of the old model.
The new model is smaller than the 803 Diamond but weighs significantly more. This is due in part to the new Turbine head which is milled from a solid block of aluminium to reduce internal resonance and disperse vibrations delivering an inert platform for the drive units to work from. Also the new cabinet is an evolution of B&W's tried and tested Matrix braced curved cabinet with a hybrid metal and ply internal matrix brace to ensure the drive units sing, and not the cabinet.
You would expect a sense of scale and musicality from a set of loudspeakers carrying a price tag such as these. Like their bigger brothers they impress more than you would expect and deliver music with genuine feeling and passion.
Available in three finishes, Gloss Black, Rosenut and Satin White.
